New York, November 13, 2012
On November 8, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) inaugurated their exhibit “Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment” at Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago. The exhibit presents graphics and scientific information from the Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment, a reference book published by GFDD and FUNGLODE. The encyclopedic dictionary offers basic knowledge to readers on the environment and conservation methods, planting the seeds of life-long learning and environmental responsibility.
During the inaugural act, Ms. Brenda Sanchez, Director of the Teatro Nacional del Cibao, thanked GFDD and FUNGLODE for bringing the important initiative, which promotes environmental concern and responsibility, to the city of Santiago.
On behalf of GFDD and FUNGLODE, Ms. Asuncion Sanz, Director of the GFDD Washington, DC Office, presented the exhibit, explaining that the content is reflective of the information contained within the reference guide, which was launched in Spanish online in 2008 and in print in 2011, and which will be launched online in English later on this month. The resource guide masterfully unites material on the environment and natural resources of the Dominican Republic, incorporating information from a wide range of disciplines, including chemistry, physics, geology, biology, atmospheric engineering, earth and soil sciences, geography, demography, economics and law.
Following the inauguration, Ms. Sanz and Ms. Emy Rodríguez, GFDD Environmental Projects Manager met with the local press in attendance, informing them of the programs and projects GFDD realizes in the area of environment and how these initiatives are helping to foster sustainable environmental management practices in the Dominican Republic. Ms. Sanz and Ms. Rodríguez spoke of the objectives and reach of the Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment and the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF).
The exhibit will be on display and open to the public until December 3.
