Santiago Welcomes the IV Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival

World Premiere of Lago Enriquillo … A Prelude to Climate Change, and the participation of its director Fernando Báez.

The IV edition of the Dominican Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), an initiative of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and its sister organization in the United States Global, Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), arrives in Santiago de los Caballeros with events and screenings that will take place from September 11 to 14 at the Centro León and the Palacio del Cine.

The movie listings in this city include: Saturday 13th, the world premiere of Lago Enriquillo … A Prelude to Climate Change, with the participation of its director Fernando Báez.

This Dominican production tells the history and evolution of the largest lake in the Antilles, its flora, its fauna, and its legends. It presents a thorough investigation of the rising levels of its water, discussed by professionals who have researched the lake for years, and how floods has affected its inhabitants. It also explains how this phenomenon has caught the attention of the scientific community in the world, for being considered a window to the world that shows the consequences of climate change.

On the opening day, Thursday, 11th at 7:00 p.m., Sand Wars will be screened, with the participation of Suzanne Harle, president of Green Planet Films and David Cassuto, environmental lawyer of Pace Law School.

On Friday, 12th Extinction Soup will be screened, with the presence of its Executive Producer and Director of photography, Stefanie Brendl.

Parrot Confidential will be showing on Sunday, 14th.  The Director of the film, Allison Argo, will be present at the conference. Argo is known for her powerful stories and intimate portraits of endangered animals, and the problems they face in a world dominated by humans.

All screenings are open to the public, as well as panel discussions, workshops and training sessions.

The IV edition of the Dominican Environmental Film Festival will be held from September 10 to 14 in 10 cities: Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros, Puerto Plata, San Francisco de Macorís, Baní, San Juan de la Maguana, La Vega, Samaná, San Cristóbal and Sosúa.
