Four short films made during the First Environmental Film Academy in Puntacana, which proposes the use of audiovisual technology among young Dominicans to raise awareness about environmental issues.
Dilema de los corales: Carolina Bonnetty, Claudia Peguero B. and Carlos Plana Alorda
This documentary discusses the coral life in the Dominican Republic and presents the problems caused by the lack of coral, particularly regarding the environment and the economy. The film presents the solutions that are already underway, such as the restoration of reefs through the use of breeding grounds at nine different locations around the island, as well as solutions that could be implemented in the future, such as ones that would involve the government in the resolution of these problems.
Efecto abejas: Solange Méndez, Lisbeth Fuertes Robles and Desireé Suero
This documentary presents the different characteristics of bees, the process of breeding them and the benefits that they provide to humans both in terms of health and the economy. This film discusses how humanity would be affected if bees were to disappear. In the words of beekeeper farmer Pedro Julio del Castillo, bees are the only insect to have lived alongside humans to their benefit.
Love for the Hawks: Valdo Rodríguez, Juan Gabriel García and Taylor Ramírez
This film covers the work of a young man, Valentín, who works protecting Ridgway’s Hawk, an endemic species in critical danger of extinction. His love for hawks is inspiring and he passes on this inspiration through his daily work routine.
Un cambio imprescindible: Yuleisy Viloria, Maura Martínez and Leslie Diana Rojas
This film gives an explanation of the problem of garbage and its implications for implementing recycling programs in the Dominican Republic. It puts emphasis on what must be done with waste, focusing on the contrast between local dumps and recycling plants, and raising the issue of to recycle or to die.
