GO FUTURE to screen Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience

September 7, 2017

Washington, DC – Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience, a production of GFDD/Funglode, has been selected to be screened at GO FUTURE on Tuesday, September 26th in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. Similar to the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), GO FUTURE, an itinerant sustainable development and environmentally-focused film festival, is an initiative that puts on free film screenings primarily for youth audiences at schools and community centers.

GFDD greatly appreciates receiving this invitation from GO FUTURE. Produced by GFDD/Funglode in 2013, the theme of Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience is as relevant today as it was then. Its message having resonated with GO FUTURE directors, the organization offered to create a French subtitle track for the film in order to assure that its young audience understands its subject matter in their own language. GFDD thanks GO FUTURE for its initiative in this matter and believes that sending the environmental messages and experiences of the Dominican Republic to a Belgian audience will be of great value.

Given the current number of environmental, economic, and social challenges related to sustainable development, GO FUTURE aims to inspire self-reflection, and is a great opportunity for its participants to think about the world that they want for tomorrow, as well as how their goals can be accomplished. GFDD/Funglode is honored to present Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience during a festival whose core focus aligns so perfectly with the message the film aims to deliver.

Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience offers an insightful look into the initiatives that individuals, communities, and organizations in the Dominican Republic have begun in order to manage unsustainable patterns of waste. With just a slight change of perspective, they started to see that what was once thought to be garbage can truly be the foundation for a better life, community, and country. Their messages and accomplishments have been instilled in audiences around the world and show that crafting solutions to today’s environmental issues is everyone’s responsibility.
