Value of Life Listed as Official Selection of the Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD)’s latest production, the short film Value of Life, has been listed in the Official Selection of the 5th Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival to be held December 21 at the Residency Hotel, in Mumbai, India.

In the highly competitive age of cinema ‘Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival’ is a platform for short filmmakers to put their work forward among the league of professionals.

Natasha Despotovic, director of Value of Life and GFDD Executive Director, commented “It´s an honor and a pleasure to screen our film in Mumbai, a city that has nurtured many great filmmakers, technicians and entertained the millions worldwide through cinema, and for this reason fondly called Bollywood.”

MSIFF, a progressive cinema movement started in 2012, it´s a great opportunity to foster the international exposure of Value of Life, that this year alone has been awarded Best Documentary Jury Prize at the BangaloreShorts Film Festival in India, and has been presented in four different international festivals: Blue Ocean Film Festival y St. Petersburg, Florida;  DCEFF in Washington, D.C.; Festival de Cine Pobre de Gibara, Holguín (Cuba), and Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) in New York.

Value of Life, produced by GFDD executive director Natasha exposes the little value that is placed on natural capital when looking at growth equations and socioeconomic development. It is difficult for big businesses, and more so for ordinary people, to quantify the significance of natural resources and make the value of nature tangible in our daily lives. The new GFDD production responds to those questions: How much is the natural capital of the Dominican Republic worth? How do we put a price on the ecosystem the planet has given us and that allows us to survive?

The festival was inaugurated in 2012, the 2013, 14 & 15 editions witnesses the great participation and enthusiasm from filmmakers and industry professionals from India and abroad. The festival objective is to contribute towards the development of upcoming filmmakers and to create short films culture in India. The festival aims is to feature great cinema of worldwide filmmakers in a big way and at the same time providing professional networking and introducing current trends of cinema to the participants. The festival also strongly advocates the need of commercial short film industry in India and will raise the issues related to short films in front of various governing bodies of cinema.
