GFDD and Funiber Join Efforts to Raise Awareness for a More Sustainable Planet
May 6, 2016The Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (Funiber) organized yesterday the Conference “Effects of Climate Change Globally and in the Dominican Republic”, addressed to professionals in the environmental sector, and companies and professionals interested in issues related to the phenomenon of climate change and how to face it. As part of the activity, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), within the framework of the program Year Round Environmental Film Screenings, presented their latest documentary, Value of Life. The short film shows how historically little value has been placed on natural capital when looking at growth equations and socioeconomic development, and highlights the most outstanding initiatives that public and private companies are developing to support sustainable development in the Dominican Republic.
The keynote presentation was given by the Director of the Fundación Empresa & Clima, Elvira Carles, who addressed climate change in both the local and international context.
The event, as explained by its organizers, aimed to create awareness among the participants about the impact of climate change; as well as to show proposals for its mitigation and adaptation, and clarify what are the tools needed to meet the commitments and challenges. In addition, emphasis was given to the importance that all citizens play an active role in environmental protection, and the implications of the recent Paris agreement.
About the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF)
Since its creation 2011, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) has been providing Dominicans with a platform of knowledge and debate on the environment and sustainable development, along with its challenges and best practices while celebrating the unique beauty and wealth that is the Dominican Republic’s natural heritage.
