San Antón School Closer to Its Goal of obtaining Eco School Certification
February 27, 2017San Pedro de Macoris – Last Friday, February 24, more than 30 students from San Antón school addressed the topics of recycling, water consumption and renewable energy, by screening Garbage or Resource?A Dominican Republic Experience of the and EcoFilm Children’s Short Program. The DREFF´s Year Round Environmental Film Screenings program visited the educational center with the objective of collaborating with the institution within the framework of the accreditation process to opt for the Eco School certification endorsed by IDARD (Environmental Law Institute of the Dominican Republic).
“The Eco School certification is considered as one of the main lines of action to equip students with the skills for sustainable use of natural resources, helping to promote compliance with sustainable environmental practices,” said Omar Shamir Reynoso, environmental programs coordinator for GFDD.
Students of the San Antón´s Science Club actively participated and acquired new knowledge related to recycling and sustainable management, in pursuit of the objectives of United Nations Agenda 2. The activity is part of GFDD’s mission to raise public awareness on the importance of protecting and preserving the environment by promoting good practices through its programs.
Since the inception of Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) in 2011, GFDD has created and developed five programs that operate throughout the year and which contribute significantly to the sustainable development of the Dominican Republic: EcoHuertos, ReCrearte, RDescrubre, Globo Verde Dominicano Award and Year Round Environmental Film Screenings Program.
