More than 120 UNPHU Students in La Vega Attend Screening of “10 Billion: What’s on Your Plate?” with Film Director Valentin Thurn

September 14, 2016

La Vega – The 6th edition of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), screened “10 Billion: What’s on Your Plate?” for the first time in the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) in the province of La Vega. The film’s director, Valentin Thurn, was at the screening, attended by more than 120 university students. When the film ended, students had the opportunity to ask questions of the director and to share their own comments on the film. Vilma Abreu, Coordinator of UNPHU’s School of Business Administration and Marketing, said it was a privilege to have had the opportunity to participate in activities such as DREFF on a national level. She noted that the film contained a positive message of awareness for everyone involved in protecting the environment for ourselves and for future generations.

Thurn’s documentary seeks worldwide solutions and leads to innovation and vision for the future. Amid heated debate over food security, the film presents a comprehensive and analytic look into the enormous spectrum of global food production and distribution, from artificial meat, insects, industrial farming to the popular trend of growing your own.

Thurn is a director and author of TV documentaries for national and international channels; producer of radio features and a magazine writer. He has written books, such as “Harte Kost,” the book upon which his latest movie “10 Billion” was based. He also gives international lectures and workshops. Thurn is member of the founding committee of the International Federation of Environmental Journalists (IFEJ), Reporters without Borders, Netzwerk Recherche (Investigative Reporter’s Network), and AGDOK (German Association of Documentary Filmmakers). In 2003 he founded the film production company THURN FILM, based in Cologne.
