ReCrearte and Recicla 360 Join Forces to Promote Recycling Art with Three Workshops for Little Children
June 5, 2017Santo Domingo – GFDD’s recycling art program, ReCrearte, will participate in the fourth edition of Recicla 360, in Santo Domingo, with three children’s workshops. In commemoration of World Recycling Day and World Environment Day, Recicla 360, which will be held at the Galería 360 shopping center, includes the participation of specialized presenters and artists who bring a fresh and creative vision to the environment, sustainable development and best practices, so that the whole family can take care of the planet.
ReCrearte has a special place in this year’s program: three workshops led by its coordinator, Lucía Marte, aimed toward young children on Sunday, June 11 (6:00 pm); Friday, June 16 (6:30 pm) and Sunday, June 25 (5:00 pm).
Since 2012, the ReCrearte program has worked with the most disadvantaged communities, who receive training in the art of recycling and creating new objects from waste and simultaneously learn to develop an alternative source of income. The program revolves around the “three golden rules” (or 3Rs) for the proper management of solid waste: reduce, reuse, and recycle. “The workshops demonstrate and emphasize the idea that recycling waste and transforming it into art and objects for daily use strengthen individuals and communities alike,” explained GFDD interim co-executive director, Yamile Eusebio.
Meanwhile, Rosanna Encarnación, marketing manager for the Galería 360 shopping center, explains that “we have carried out this event on these dates for four years, since World Recycling Day is held on May 17. With it, we promote the culture of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle) to make people aware of the importance of preserving the environment,” she pointed out.
The fair includes the participation of artisans, representatives from schools, universities, art schools, the Ministry of the Environment, Revista RD Verde, Fundación Ecológica Puntacana, Cedaf, the Artístico, Fil-Armonía, the Joven Filarmónica de Fe y Alegría and Funtepod, as well as GFDD/Funglode with its ReCrearte program.
Gibel Orsini de Jiménez, director of Revista RD Verde and contributor to the event, noted that “this edition of Recicla 360 highlights our need to adopt the culture of the 3Rs for the benefit of turtles and marine species, through reducing, reusing and recycling to significantly reduce the quantity of solid wastes that ends up in oceans.”
