Environmental Journalism Workshop with Stuart Sender and Anastasia Laukkanen at the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival 2016

Santo Domingo – This year, as part of its commitment to training, educating, and raising awareness on environmental issues, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (www.dreff.org) is offering a workshop on Environmental Journalism, to be led by renowned U.S. journalist and film producer Stuart Sender as well as Anastasia Laukkanen, journalist and programming director of Russia’s ECOCUP Green Documentary Film Festival.

Flyer - Taller de Periodismo MedioambientalOrganized in conjunction with the Funglode Communications Research Center (CIC-Funglode) and EcoREd, the free workshop will take place on Wednesday, September 14, at 6:30pm in the Funglode offices in Santo Domingo. It will be emceed by journalist Marvin del Cid, media editor at Grupo Diario Libre and winner of the 2015 Environmental Journalism Award.

The workship will cover some of the essential issues facing environmental journalists in the 21st century:

  • Understanding scientific language and current environmental problems
  • Knowledge of historical events related to the environment
  • Ability to stay up to date on environmental policymaking and the work of green NGOs
  • Ability to communicate all this information to the public in an understandable way, despite its complexity

In addition, the 90-minute workshop will cover examples of how environmental journalism has played a key role in the sphere of high-level policymaking.
